Milk is a child's first food. For first 6 months of life exclusively mother's milk is recommended while after that also milk remains as major food throughout life. There are many types of milks like buffalo / cows/ goat milk, almond milk, soy milk etc.
Milk is rich in Calcium and Vit.D which are required for healthy denture and bone growth and healthy muscles. Milk also has varying amount of fat which is important for healthy brain.

- Normally it should be taken warm, so it is easy to digest and doesn't cause bloating.
- Don't give zero fat or double toned milk to kids as fat is important for them.
- You can have it cold in case of heartburn with hyper acidity.

Bones are the framework of our body. Bones support muscles and internal organs and are important for body movement as well. If the bones are weak they can break with little force i.e. fracture.
Along with diet exercise is equally important for bone health. So kids should be encouraged to play outdoor games like running, playing football etc, dancing, cycling.
What if kids refuse milk?
It is a difficult task for mothers when child is fussy for milk. Kids learn from parents. So it is important to set a good example. Parents should include milk and milk products in daily diet.
- Flavoured milk with chocolate or coco powder
- milk added to cereal
- fruit smoothie with added milk
- milk in the form of kheer ( Indian dessert)
- Involve paneer, cheese,butter, ghee in diet.
You can speak to kids and explain the importance of milk for health.
If still kids don't agree then there are other food items other than milk rich in calcium which can be added to diet e.g. tofu, some green vegetables, juices fortified with calcium, cereals, fish etc.
